November 11, 2006. Summerville, SC. The Board of Directors for Summerville’s Palmetto House hosted the Annual Gala on Saturday evening, November 11th.
Held at the Summer House in Summerville, and catered by Sweetwater Café, guests enjoyed live musical entertainment headlined by Dr. Justin James. Pepsi Cola donated soft drinks for the evening.
Themed “A Taste of the South,” a wide variety of foods were enjoyed by guests including traditional shrimp and grits, gumbo, pecan chicken, Adagio pork, and a variety of treats, spirits and coffees.
Jeremy Dunlap of Summerville won the evening raffle. Sponsored by Myrtle Beach Golf, a prominent purveyor of golf vacations and outings (www.mbgolf.com), the grand prize was a 4 day 3 night stay in Myrtle Beach with golf each day.
The Gala fell on the first day of National Homeless Week. The event came one day after the ribbon cutting and dedication of the new Palmetto House facility in West Summerville.
Jerry Musselman, Chairman of the Board of Directors noted “It has been a long time coming. Our old facility could accommodate eight individuals while our new Palmetto House has a capacity of 44.”
“We not only provide shelter,” said Barbara Washington, Executive Director, but we also provide three meals a day to the community, as well as medical, vocational and other assistance.”
All proceeds from the gala benefit the Palmetto House.
