As a real estate company for two decades, Dicari Development bought and cleared land, obtained permits and otherwise spearheaded a host of projects, including Summer Ridge in Summerville. But in this case and others, the developer didn't have the means or manpower to erect homes. The responsibility at Summer Ridge went to Steve Hill & Co. Builders. It had crews and subcontractors that poured foundations, fitted utilities, framed walls, painted fixtures, and installed shingled roofs on the brick and beaded-vinyl sided homes.

The two companies had worked together before on a number of projects. So, somewhere between phase one and phase two, Dicari and Hill concluded that they would be more successful together than apart. The businesses merged to form Summerville Homes, LLC. Instantly, the venture climbed the list of the largest home contractors headquartered in the Charleston area, constructing 100 houses in 2003, 150 homes in 2004, and is projecting double that by 2006. Summerville Homes is also expanding into Aiken and Myrtle Beach markets.
